About Us

Kaela Meyers received her Bachelor of Arts in sociology (B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1995) and her law degree (J.D., cum laude, 2000) from the University of Minnesota.  As a law student, Kaela was recognized by both the Minnesota Justice Foundation and the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota for her outstanding volunteer legal work on behalf of immigrants in Minnesota.  She was also recognized by The South Texas Pro Bono Asylum Representation Project for her successful representation of a 12 year old asylum seeker in Harlingen, Texas.  As managing editor of the Journal of Law and Inequality, she enjoyed the opportunity to research and publish articles that examined the latest laws affecting immigrants’ rights.  After law school, Kaela became the director of the Cambodian Asylum Project where she represented Cambodians seeking asylum in the United States.  From 2005 to 2010 she sat on the Board of Directors for the United Cambodian Association of Minnesota.  Kaela is currently a consulting attorney for the Refugee and Immigrant Program at The Advocates for Human Rights and a pro bono attorney with the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota.  As a mother of three, Kaela understands the importance of family.  Whether a petition for a parent, a child who was separated from her parents in time of war, or a spouse, you can count on Meyers Law Offices for prompt, empathetic resolution of your case.



Kanika Lim joined Meyers Law Offices in April 2011 as a legal assistant.   From 2008 to 2011, she worked in the Refugee Legal Services Program at the United Cambodian Association of Minnesota as legal assistant to the immigration attorney.   She received her A.S. in paralegal studies from Inver Hills Community College in May 2012.  Kanika is continuing her studies at the University of Minnesota where she majors in Chinese Studies.  She is fluent in Khmer and Mandarin.  Her own immigration journey from Cambodia in 2007 gives Kanika unique  insight into the process and emotions involved in starting life in the United States.  Her firsthand experience with consulate and USCIS interviews lends her a knowlegde and compassion that is invaluable to our clients.
